There are many people in our industry who do this gig “for a living”, and they go home and don’t think about it until the next day. Open source software exists precisely because there are people who are better than that.
Article is mostly a rant about how Google does software development better than *, but the above is probably the crux of it. If your company hires people who come to work because what you’re paying them to do is their definition of play, your company will win. If your company hires people who’s sole driver for showing up to work is the salary that pays for their next holiday, your company will, *at best, *be mediocre.
