If you’re trying to activate Windows 8 and are getting the error

0x8007232B DNS name does not exist

the client is searching for your enterprise KMS server and not finding one. If you are in a corporate environment, you probably want to contact IT at this point, since KMS is very likely the preferred activation method for your enterprise.

If you’re sure you know what you’re doing and want to MAK activate (TechNet/MSDN download, for example), open an elevated command prompt and type the following (where xxxxx is your MAK activation key).

slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

Once done, proceed with activation via the “System” page where activationoccurredin Windows 7 or the ‘metro’ Settings app.
